Some of this liquid spouts from the surface in newly spotted sporadic plumes at the southern pole. This suggests that its surface may be composed of dark, colorless rock. Io is the most volcanically active body in our solar system.
Far from being static, the stripes of clouds change over time. It is the largest of the four giant planets in the Solar System and hence its largest planet. These are sub-divided into lighter-hued zones and darker belts.
Convection within the interior of the planet transports more energy to the poles, balancing out the temperatures at the cloud layer. In a similar manner, the ancient Greeks named the planet after Zeus, the king of the Greek pantheon. Ganymede is the largest moon in our solar system, larger even than Mercury and Pluto. The third ring, known as the gossamer ring because of its transparency, is actually three rings of microscopic debris from three of Jupiter's moons, Amalthea, Thebe and Adrastea.
However, researchers have found no evidence for life on Jupiter. The clouds are located in the tropopause and are arranged into bands of different latitudes, known as tropical regions. This was the first time that celestial bodies were seen circling an object other than Earth, major support of the Copernican view that Earth was not the center of the universe. These radio waves could help scientists to probe the oceans on its moons.
