Sheet Metal Work by Marcus Bowman download in pdf, ePub, iPad
Deep drawing Example of deep drawn part Drawing is a forming process in which the metal is stretched over a form or die. Saws, plasma cutters, and drills are then used to create the precise cuts. Some tasks are performed independently, but it's also important to work on teams. The things to be compared may be presented at the same time or one after the other. The lower part of the press contains a V-shaped groove called the die.
Perforating Perforating is a cutting process that punches multiple small holes close together in a flat workpiece. It is used to produce a uniform wall thickness part with a high height-to-diameter ratio.
They use specialized fastening devices such as bolts, rivets, screws and solder. It uniformly thins the workpiece in a specific area. They read plans and determine the type and amount of materials and then measure, bend, cut, shape, and attach pieces of sheet metal to make the products. Beyond the tools of the trade, sheet metal workers need good critical-thinking skills, coupled with a solid understanding of algebra and trigonometry.
Sheet Metal workers also perform all types of welding on all types of materials. Sheet Metal workers use sheet metal for roofs, rain gutters, siding, ventilation, heating and air-conditioning duct systems. The press pushes the punch against and into the die with enough force to cut a hole in the stock.
Tool steel is generally used due to the amount of wear done by operation. If the product is in pieces, workers perform further assembly work, joining ducts, seams and tubes.
Most commonly these products include elements of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, although sheet metal workers also fabricate and repair products for drainage and roofing applications. Multiple simple shaped holes may be produced in one stage, but complex holes are created in multiple stages. The abilities to lift heavy items, bend and stoop, and stand for long periods of time are necessary for the position, and some work in confined spaces. The machine that bends the metal is called a press brake.
